Finally. A HUGE step in the right direction.
Cedar Lane’s sanctuary guest, Rosa Gutiérrez López, was granted a 90 day stay of removal. This is life-changing news for Rosa and her children, and the beginning of their journey back to freedom, independence, and stability.
Even more significantly, ICE has indicated that a longer stay of removal will be forthcoming once Rosa and her family have moved out of sanctuary.
And here is where you come in. Congregation Action Network and our partner Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church need to raise at least $30,000 to support Rosa and her family in their transition.
Would you make a one-time or recurring contribution?
If you prefer, you may also send a check payable to Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814 with “Rosa transition” in the memo line.
Funds will be used for rent, utilities, food, clothing, school supplies, transportation, and other expenses until Rosa is able to independently support her family. As you can imagine, moving out is particularly challenging in the time of Covid-19. Job opportunities are scarce and all three of Rosa’s kids are in school online from home.
Rosa and her volunteer transition team have identified and helped secure a lease for an excellent housing opportunity. The new place allows her kids to attend the same schools, offers a community of neighbors, and is close to public transportation.
All monies raised will be used to directly support Rosa and her family’s transition. Should we raise more than is needed, funds will be used to continue CAN’s work in support of immigrant rights.
Your contributions of funds, time, and talent have made it possible for Rosa to live in sanctuary. For her family to remain together. For her to continue to fight her case. For her and her family to envision a better life!
